A teenager woke from a peaceful sleep to a real nightmare early Wednesday morning after being injured by a stray bullet while sleeping in her bed in a condominium in the northwest part of Miami-Dade.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO) confirmed that Yaramsi Robaina, 17 years old, sustained scratches on her lower limbs during a shooting that occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. at the Fairway View apartment complex, located at Northwest 69th Avenue and 173rd Drive.

Personnel from the Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue Department provided medical attention to the teenager on-site.

A report from the television channel Local 10 News showcased images of the scene, where a large hole in the glass of the bedroom window caused by the gunfire can be seen.

According to the reporter, the mother of the teenager was too distressed to speak in front of the camera and had tears in her eyes over what had happened to her daughter.

Worried about the events of this morning, a resident in the neighborhood stated: “I have been living here for three years, but I have never seen anything like this in this area, because Country Club is a good neighborhood; it's a safe area.”

Another neighbor expressed a similar concern: "Imagine being at rest and, suddenly, having an accident like that with a stray bullet. Thank God the shot only injured the young woman's leg and it wasn't anything serious."

The General Investigations Unit (GIU) of the MDSO Northwest is responsible for the investigation of the incident.
