Recent Background on Human Trafficking in Miami
This new case adds to other similar incidents that have occurred this year. In January, U.S. authorities arrested two Cuban citizens accused of operating a network for trafficking Chinese migrants into the United States.
According to the chief of the Miami Sector Border Patrol, Jeffrey Dinise, the detainees were intercepted along with 26 undocumented Chinese migrants following a joint operation with the Coral Gables police.
The immigrants, 17 men and 9 women, were located while traveling in two vans in the areas of 88th Street and Old Cutler Road, and 11600 Old Cutler Road. A firearm was also recovered at the scene.
"There is no place for human trafficking in the city of Coral Gables, let alone in the state of Florida. We must directly address illegal immigration by utilizing our experienced state and local agencies," stated John Vecchio, special agent of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) in Miami.
