The head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Cuba, Mike Hammer, took a tour of the city of Matanzas on Friday, where he met with local artists and reaffirmed his country's commitment to freedom of expression on the Island.

"Through art, one appreciates the soul of a country, but only if artists can express themselves freely. Those unjustly imprisoned, like Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, Maykel Osorbo, and Jessica Torres Calvo, must be freed," Hammer wrote on the social media platform X.
