The mother and sister of Mairovis Valier Heredia, the 35-year-old woman who lost her life in the early hours of August 25 after being struck by a car driven by a foreigner in Havana, have provided a heartbreaking testimony in which they criticized the lack of support and information from the regime regarding the incident and called for justice.

Mairovis Valier Heredia, who has left three children orphaned, was the only fatality in the unusual accident, of which very few official details are known a week later.

In an emotional testimony that has gone viral on social media in recent hours, the mother of the deceased pointed out that her daughter had come shortly before to Guantánamo to support her son, who had joined the "Camilitos" race.

"I'm here supporting the children. I can't sleep because a foreigner hit my daughter with the car and she lost her life. My other daughter was in therapy, and no one has come here to help us," said the mother of the deceased, tearfully.

“This tragedy happened and no one has come to help me with the children. I don’t sleep or live. I ask for justice, I ask for the maximum penalty for that man who took my daughter’s life,” she added, while carrying one of the deceased’s children, asleep, on her lap.

"No one has come here, and my grandson and his father are from the FAR," she pointed out.

“I am suffering because that foreigner took my daughter's life, and no one has come to tell me who he is, who was driving the car, or offered any support at all. I feel sad and ask for justice,” she concluded in a heart-wrenching testimony.

Mairovis's sister, visibly affected as well, introduced herself as "one of the survivors who came out of therapy a few days ago."

“That day we were walking on Galiano, a foreigner deliberately ran us over with the car… It was me, my cousin, my sister, and her aunt,” the woman described, emphasizing that her sister is survived by “three abandoned and unprotected children.”

“She had come here to Havana. She had arrived a few days ago to start working to provide for the children and to support her other child who was completing his military service here,” she detailed.

The regime remains silent: More questions than answers

Incredibly, a week after the mass hit-and-run that occurred in Havana, which resulted in the tragic toll of one deceased and eight injured, only the brief official statement from the Ministry of the Interior is known.

After two in the morning on Monday, August 25, “a foreign citizen residing in Cuba” hit "nine people in different areas of the Centro Habana and Habana Vieja municipalities with his car.”

Now the family of Valier Heredia is calling for justice and denouncing that none of the individuals from the Havana government or the authorities investigating this crime have shown up at their home.

As of the closing of this note, official secrecy regarding the case still persists.
