New revelations have emerged in the case of the murder of Daylon Fleitas, a 37-year-old Cuban who was reported missing in early August in Hialeah, and whose body was discovered days later inside a recycling container.
Daylon was reported missing on August 3rd. From the very beginning, his family began to suspect that something was wrong, especially when his wife started receiving suspicious messages from the phone number that her husband used to use.
According to journalist Javier Díaz from Univision, the killer used that number to send messages via WhatsApp to the victim's partner, impersonating him.
In the messages, the supposed "Daylon" claimed that he had been detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), but that he had managed to escape to Mexico with the help of a friend.
It also mentioned that it could not provide more information for security reasons.
However, the family quickly realized that something was wrong. They knew that those messages did not match Daylon's behavior or his actual situation.
The alleged killer: A close friend
The news took an even more heartbreaking turn when the main suspect was identified: Alfredo Carballo, a close friend of the victim. The thought that someone so close could be capable of such a brutal crime has been difficult for the family to process.
Marlon Fleitas, the victim's brother, confessed that although he did not initially suspect Alfredo, he always had an internal unease.
“Honestly, at first I didn't think he was capable of such a barbaric act, to be honest, but I always had a hunch that he was involved,” he declared.
And he added, with regret: “I believe that no amount of money is enough to take life away”, he explained to the aforementioned media.
Marlon recounted that while they were desperately looking for Daylon, he maintained communication with Alfredo, who even transferred him $2,500 via Zelle, arguing that this was the debt he owed his brother.
"I had several options; if I didn't want to pay him the money, I could have easily gone to the police and said, 'Look, I can't pay this man,' or something like that," Marlon reasoned, emphasizing that Alfredo chose the most extreme path: crime.
A disquieting complicity
The family's pain is not directed solely at Alfredo Carballo.
They also point to her partner, Ariely Álvarez Cabrera, as an accomplice. According to the family's account, the woman had multiple opportunities to distance herself from the crime, but she did not.
“She had thousands of opportunities to free herself from this, and she didn't. She became an accomplice because she wanted to,” Marlon Fleitas stated, outraged.
Among the most moving testimonies is that of the victim's mother, who strongly expressed her desire for justice: “As long as I am alive, I will be crying out for justice, and I will not tire.”
Her words reflect not only the pain of a mother who has lost a child but also the frustration with a system that has yet to resolve the case.
Daylon's body has not yet been released by the coroner's office, and the family is calling for progress in the investigation.
"They have really taken a piece of my life away from me. They have taken a piece, my brother," Marlon reiterated.
The mother, for her part, concluded: "We will never truly have peace again because they took a piece of our family away from us."
The family of Daylon Fleitas demands that both Alfredo Carballo and Ariely Álvarez Cabrera turn themselves in to the police and face the legal consequences for this crime.
The video that confirmed the murder
A surveillance video starkly captured the final moments of Daylon Fleitas.
The recording, captured on Sunday, August 3, in a truck parking lot in Medley, clearly showed the sequence of the crime, from the encounter with the alleged murderer to the dragging of the body.
In the images, Alfredo Carballo -the main suspect and currently at large- approaches Fleitas' truck. Both enter the vehicle, but minutes later the camera captures the most chilling moment: the victim's body falls to the ground and Carballo drags it without resistance.
The police assure that at that point he was already injured or deceased.
Then it is seen how the aggressor places a recycling bin in the back of the victim's truck, gets into the driver's seat, and drives away from the scene, while another vehicle follows.
“The victim and the subject entered the victim's truck. Shortly after, the victim is seen falling from the vehicle while the subject drags her along the ground,” the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s document describes.
The disappearance was officially reported on August 7, and a day later, the truck was found in the area of Southwest 210th Street and 203rd Avenue, with visible traces of blood in the vehicle and a nearby backpack.
The body was not found until August 9, when homicide agents located the abandoned container in a wooded area.
Inside was Daylon Fleitas with multiple wounds caused by a knife. The county coroner confirmed that this was the cause of his death.
"The investigators located the recycling container... and found the victim inside the container. The victim had multiple injuries on the body," the authorities documented.
Since then, the police have been searching for Alfredo Carballo González and his partner, Ariely Álvarez Cabrera, both Cubans, who are on the run with their five-month-old son, Alain Carballo.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office issued an alert for the disappearance of the baby and warned that the adults might be armed and should be considered dangerous.
Authorities are asking the community for help in locating those involved. Any information can be reported anonymously to the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers Line: 305-471-8477.
