The Cuban doctor Ángel Luis Lafargue Suárez, a specialist in Imaging and a member of the medical brigade providing services in Qatar, passed away this Friday in Guantánamo due to an acute myocardial infarction while enjoying vacation in his hometown.
As reported on Facebook by the group of Cuban doctors in Qatar, Lafargue Suárez has had an extensive career in the health sector since 2007, when he began as a licensed Imaging Technician at the Asdrúbal López Polyclinic in Guantánamo.
His work took him on missions to various countries, including Antigua and Barbuda in 2009 and 2017. Since July 2023, he had been working in Qatar as a specialist in Computed Tomography.
"He longed to return to his family and to be able to fully enjoy time with them, especially with his wife," his colleagues noted regarding Lafargue's trip to Cuba.
Colleagues and friends remembered him as a professional “exceptional, disciplined, and kind”, as well as a caring and dedicated human being.
In messages posted in the Facebook group Colaboración Médica Guantánamo, colleagues expressed that “there are no words that can do justice” and assured that her legacy “will endure forever.”
The condolences were extended to his wife and other family members, who were his greatest wish when planning his return to Cuba.
An evening in his memory was scheduled between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm at the Lusail R15 building in Qatar, where friends and mission colleagues gathered to pay tribute to him.

The specialist passed away on Thursday, August 21, after suffering an acute cerebrovascular illness.
Matos Urgellés was part of the generation of doctors who graduated in 1990 from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Guantánamo and was a member of the III Carlos J.
