The first seismic event was recorded at 6:34 p.m. (local time), at a depth of 7.4 kilometers, located at 19.88 degrees north latitude and -77.40 degrees west longitude, seven kilometers west of Pilón, reported Enrique Diego Arango Arias, head of the Seismological Service and specialist at the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS).

At 6:40 p.m., the network of seismological stations detected the second tremor, measuring 3.2 in magnitude, at a depth of 10 km and at coordinates 19.82 degrees north latitude and -77.33 degrees west longitude, 10 kilometers south of the same eastern locality.
