The circumstances surrounding the accident that claimed the life of the young woman have not been revealed, nor are there details about the current condition of her partner.

The early death of Marcia has been a hard blow for her family and friends, and has caused great distress in the community of Artemisa.

The news broke on social media. “Rest in peace, my dear, fly high… your departure has caused great pain for all your friends and especially for your family… no one saw this coming, everything is so hard… we are going to miss you a lot,” wrote Yeni Pérez in the Facebook group “Revolico Guanajay”.

Thousands of people have reacted to the post and shared numerous messages expressing their sorrow over the young woman's passing and sending condolences to her family and friends.

Although the causes that led to this accident are unknown, its tragic outcome serves as a new reminder of the risks associated with motorcycle riding, the use of which has significantly increased in recent years in Cuba due to the severe transportation crisis.

The data is telling: motorcycles and mopeds are involved in 52% of traffic accidents in the country and are responsible for 32% of deaths and 42% of injuries, according to the latest report from the National Road Safety Commission.

This same week, a motorcyclist lost his life in a collision with a horse-drawn cart in the municipality of Guanabacoa, in Havana, and the week before, a young woman of only 18 was killed after being hit by a truck while riding an electric motorcycle in Eastern Havana.

Days before, two separate accidents were reported in Holguín in which motorcycle riders also lost their lives.

The traffic accidents continue to be one of the leading causes of death and serious injuries in Cuba, where deficiencies in road infrastructure, the deterioration of the vehicle fleet, and the lack of resources for road maintenance are elements that exacerbate the situation, according to official reports.

In the first eight months of this year, 502 people died in traffic accidents, a figure that accounts for 80% of the fatalities from this cause throughout 2024, indicating an increase in mortality from incidents on the country's roads.
