The price of gasoline in Florida increased by 11 cents per gallon last week,
According to The Auto Club Group (AAA), the state price, despite the increase, does not exceed the $3 mark.
The state average fluctuated last week: it went from $2.92 on Sunday to $2.87 on Tuesday, before rising again to $2.98 per gallon on Friday.
"The price of gasoline continues to fluctuate at gas stations in Florida: the statewide average decreases for 5 to 10 days and then rises by 10 to 25 cents," said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA.
"Fortunately, this week's increase was low, and drivers continue to find some of the lowest prices of the year," he added.
Experts indicate that these fluctuations are due to changes in oil prices and seasonal adjustments in fuel supply. Although the rebound was moderate, motorists will need to stay alert for potential increases in the coming weeks.
Higher prices: West Palm Beach ($3.14), Naples ($3.05), and Ocala ($3.01); lower prices: Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.67), Pensacola ($2.66), Panama City ($2.72).
This past Labor Day, gasoline in Florida had its lowest price on a holiday since the pandemic began in 2020.
The state average for a gallon of regular fuel was set at $3.11 on that date, down from $3.30 last year and far from the record of $4.89 reached in June 2022.
Nationally, the average was $3.20 per gallon, also the lowest since 2020, when the demand for fuel plummeted due to COVID lockdowns.
The administration of Donald Trump celebrated the forecast: “From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans have saved money at the pump with the lowest prices in five years,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told the New York Post.
Experts like Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy attribute the relief to the drop in oil prices—around 64 dollars per barrel—and to strong global production.
It is even anticipated that the cost may drop below 3 dollars per gallon this fall, depending on the hurricane season.
Relief at the pump comes amidst an economy where many families still face high costs for food, rent, and services.
“Reducing energy means an immediate increase in cash flow for households, and that particularly helps those with low and middle incomes,” Joe LaVorgna, a Treasury advisor, told CNN.
Florida ha experimentado una tendencia sostenida a la baja en los precios de la gasolina durante los últimos meses, a pesar de ciertos repuntes puntuales vinculados a tensiones geopolíticas.
The state recorded one of its lowest levels since 2023, with averages close to 3 dollars per gallon, benefiting drivers in the peak of spring season.
However, the outbreak of the conflict between Iran and Israel caused a temporary increase in fuel prices, due to concerns about the stability of international oil supply.
This episode drove prices up in Florida and other states, although it was followed by a rapid stabilization of the market.
Recently, a decline was recorded again, reaching averages similar to pre-pandemic levels, which was interpreted as a positive signal for the domestic economy.
Factors such as high global production and the behavior of strategic reserves have contributed to maintaining this relief at the pumps.
