The Cuban-American Congressman Carlos Giménez denounced the Mexican government this Tuesday for its "pathetic complicity" with the murderous dictatorship of Cuba, in light of the multimillion-dollar shipments of oil that the Aztec nation has sent to the island in recent months.
Through an official announcement published on the social network X, Giménez —a member of the National Security Commission and the Mexico-U.S. Interparliamentary Group— reported that he filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of State, requesting sanctions and corrective measures against Mexico.
The letter: "Mexico finances a murderous dictatorship"
In his letter addressed to Secretaries Scott Bessent (Treasury) and Marco Rubio (State), dated October 30, 2025, the Republican legislator demands that, during the renegotiation of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (USMCA), it be ensured that the Mexican government terminates its relationship with the Havana regime.
Citing reports from The Miami Herald, Giménez stated that Mexico sent more than 3 billion dollars in oil to Cuba between May and August 2025, which, in his opinion, violates U.S. policy and could be illegal.
"President Sheinbaum is sending concerning amounts of oil to a dangerous dictatorship with operational ties to Venezuela's Cartel of the Suns, an officially designated foreign terrorist organization," the text emphasizes.
Accusations of complicity with narco-terrorism
The congressman also accuses Mexico of "conspiring with the cartels to turn migration into a weapon against the United States" and of funding regimes that host and facilitate transnational criminal organizations.
Giménez warns that these networks—which he links to drug trafficking and the governments of Venezuela and Cuba—are responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans due to drugs and violence.
Action proposals within the framework of the USMCA
In his letter, the congressman suggests that the review of the trade treaty with Mexico include specific measures to protect the national security interests of the United States: requiring Mexico to strengthen its efforts against narco-terrorist organizations;
stop the trafficking of Cuban doctors, whom Giménez describes as "victims of a modern form of slavery," and put an end to the oil shipments to the Havana regime.
“The United States should not allow its closest trading partner to finance criminal regimes,” emphasized the representative from Florida, who reiterated his commitment to work towards strengthening the integrity of the USMCA and protecting U.S. national security.
A staunch enemy of the Cuban dictatorship
Carlos Giménez, of Cuban origin, has been one of the most staunch critics of the Havana regime in the United States Congress. Since arriving at the Capitol, he has promoted resolutions and bills aimed at increasing political and economic pressure on the Cuban government and supporting political prisoners and activists on the island.
The Republican legislator from Florida has become a consistent voice against authoritarianism in Latin America, publicly denouncing the alliances among Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and now Mexico, which he views as a support network among dictatorships and criminal organizations. His stance has positioned him as one of the leading defenders of the freedom of the Cuban people within the U.S. Congress.
