Cuban content creator Lin Reve (Lindsay Reverón), known for her elegant style, fashion videos, and beauty tips, surprised her followers by posting a video on TikTok from her account @linreve_makeup that had nothing to do with makeup or outfits. This time, the influencer chose to speak from the heart—and with complete clarity—about Cuba and what she considers "a lie that has been repeated for more than six decades."
During her vacation, Lin recounted that she went to have breakfast at a Starbucks when a young woman, upon learning that she was Cuban, remarked: “Oh, Cuba, how sad what is happening because of the American blockade.” It was then that the influencer decided to intervene, and her response quickly went viral.
In her video, Lin was straightforward: "The blockade does not exist. The blockade is a word the Castros invented to manipulate reality. Cuba has an embargo, a measure imposed by the United States."
"Cuba does not suffer from hunger because of the United States, but rather because of the dictatorship," he stated firmly.
But the most powerful message of the video was another. Lin insisted that Cubans, both inside and outside the island, have a moral responsibility to the truth. “We have to educate, in the streets, on social media, or wherever. Out of respect for the exiled Cubans, those on the island, and for ourselves,” he stated while looking directly at the camera.
Her video sparked an avalanche of comments. “66 years of dictatorship to be exact,” replied one user. Another added: “The dictatorship is the one blocking the Cuban people.” Hundreds of people applauded her bravery and celebrated that, from the world of fashion, a young Cuban chose to use her voice to speak about politics so clearly.
Although her usual content revolves around makeup and fashion, Lin made it clear that her commitment as a Cuban is above digital niches. “Social media operates by themes, but that doesn’t diminish my responsibility as a Cuban. That has always been my stance, because there is no other,” she stated. And that phrase, like her video, continues to resonate on thousands of screens as a reminder that there is no fashion more valuable than speaking the truth.
