The video, recorded from a cruise traveling from Mexico to Bimini, shows the silhouette of Havana as seen from the sea and has moved thousands of Cubans who long for their homeland.
A Cuban traveler managed to capture the silhouette of Havana from a cruise ship sailing through the Florida Strait on its route from Mexico to Bimini, and the brief video he shared on TikTok has gone viral due to the emotional impact it conveys.
The images show the open sea, and in the distance, the line of Havana's buildings is barely discernible on the horizon. The video's author, identified on TikTok as @pergolascoronado, accompanied the footage with the text “Havana, Cuba, from a cruise,” while he focused on the Cuban capital from the deck of the ship.
User comments reflect a blend of nostalgia, sadness, and love for the Island: “So close and yet so far,” wrote one.
"From afar, our Cuba looks beautiful, but in truth, it is destroyed," commented another user. "So much nostalgia, beautiful little Cuba," added several internet users.
Some expressed their sorrow over the distance and their rejection of the Cuban regime, but they did not fail to acknowledge the emotional connection to their country: “How sad… I miss my Cuba. I am on team Patria y Vida until death, but I miss that seawall and its people a lot,” said one user.
The brief clip, lasting just a few seconds, captures the sentiments of thousands of Cubans who, although living outside the island, continue to gaze toward the sea with hope for a free and different future for their country.
