The death of Kanisa Love, a 32-year-old woman found dead under the Dadeland South Metrorail station, has shocked Miami-Dade.

Authorities arrested Jorge Gómez, 45 years old, a homeless man with a lengthy criminal record, accused of pushing her off the platform and causing the fatal blow that killed her.

Love's body was found on Saturday, November 15, under the elevated ramp of public transport, at the intersection of Southwest 80th Street and US-1.

Sheriff's deputies and firefighters responded after receiving a call about an unconscious woman. Minutes later, the Fire Rescue personnel pronounced her dead.

The autopsy conducted by the forensic doctor confirmed that he died from blunt force trauma to the head and classified the case as homicide.

Video reveals the moments before and after the attack

According to the police report, surveillance cameras captured the moment Gómez approached Love "without any provocation" and pushed her to the ground.

Another earlier video shows the victim walking away from him, while the suspect follows with his hands on his head. It has not been determined whether they knew each other or the reason for the attack.

Witnesses cited by NBC6 declared that they also saw Gómez push Love at a nearby mall, before she ended up falling from the platform.

According to the investigators, the blow to the head was decisive in his death.

The suspect confessed and has a criminal record

Gómez was arrested on Thursday, interrogated, and ended up confessing, according to the police report. That same day, he was transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

His criminal record in Miami-Dade dates back to 2014 and includes arrests for domestic violence, robbery, possession of cocaine and marijuana, as well as a conviction for grand theft in 2023. He was on probation until February 2026.

At a bail hearing on Friday, Judge Mindy Glazer ordered his detention without bail.

"He pushed the victim off the Metrorail platform, causing their death," declared a prosecutor.

"He killed a 32-year-old woman who was standing at a Metrorail station; he pushed her," stated the judge.

A victim far from home

Kanisa Love had just turned 32 a week earlier, on November 7. She was originally from Georgia and had no family in South Florida.

The case, in addition to raising concerns about safety at Metrorail stations, opens questions regarding the care of homeless individuals with violent backgrounds in crowded public spaces.

While Gómez awaits trial for second-degree murder, Love's memory is marked by an unexpected and brutal death captured by the Miami-Dade cameras.
