The renowned Argentine pastor Dante Gebel published on his social media that a team of missionaries visited the area of Camalote, in Nuevitas, Camagüey, where they distributed beautiful toys for the children, in addition to providing food and spiritual support to hundreds of families affected by the severe health crisis and the harsh conditions currently impacting the Cuban population.
“We continue to help in Cuba... we bring fun and toys to hundreds of children in the Camalote community,” he wrote on Facebook.
The arrival of these toys has a special impact in a country where most Cuban children lack toys, play materials, and quality recreation spaces, a direct consequence of economic deterioration, lack of infrastructure, prolonged blackouts, rising diseases, and particularly in the eastern part of the country, the devastation left by the recent passage of the Hurricane Melissa. In this context, initiatives like this feel like a ray of light amidst so many adversities.
Health crisis and mission on the ground
The town of Camalote is facing a growing outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases, which has raised alarm among residents. The situation further complicates the daily lives of families, who are already living under severe economic strain, as highlighted in a report from the page Luzvisión, which closely follows this project.
Gebel explained that his team is deployed in the area, distributing food bags and directly assisting affected households. "Right now, they are facing a major health crisis due to various mosquito-borne viruses. Today we distributed bags of food to families. #SomosRiver," he wrote.
A help that nurtures and also brings joy
The River missionaries not only provide food and basic resources: they are also giving away toys and creating spaces of joy for the little ones, something that is increasingly scarce in Cuban communities. For many children, these gifts represent their first toy in a long time, or even the only one they have.
The report describes the team's presence as “a beacon of light and hope.” Each delivery, they say, is a gesture that helps support a community affected by illness, scarcity, and ongoing hardships.
Faith turned into action
The assistance aims not only to relieve immediate needs but also to uplift spirits, provide support, and show solidarity during times when daily life has become particularly difficult for Cuban families.
