The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cuba donated an electric car to the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER) this Friday, in a gesture that both parties presented as a demonstration of the "strengthening of sports and political ties" between Havana and Beijing.
The gift took place in the context of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 60th anniversary of sports exchange between both countries.
According to the state-run newspaper Granma, the award ceremony took place at the Chinese diplomatic mission in Havana and was presided over by Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of INDER; Roberto León Richards, head of the Cuban Olympic Committee; and Hua Xin, ambassador of the People's Republic of China on the island.
During the event, Vento Montiller described the donation as "a tangible demonstration of the trust and commitment that binds our peoples" and emphasized that sports serve as a "cultural and human bridge" to strengthen ties, promote exchange, and project "a relationship that thrives on friendship and collaboration within a Community of Shared Future."
The president of INDER expressed gratitude for the donation of the electric vehicle and assured that this gesture represents an example of hope, cooperation, and "new shared victories" between Cuba and China.
For his part, Ambassador Hua Xin recalled the recent celebration of the AFIDE event, in which China participated as the honored guest country, and defined sports cooperation as "an important part of bilateral humanitarian exchanges," a "microcosm of mutual learning between civilizations," and a demonstration of the understanding between the two peoples.
He reiterated that the Chinese embassy will continue supporting exchanges and cooperation between the sports communities of the two countries.
