The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, defended President Donald Trump's immigration policy and reaffirmed that the government will protect the country's security and national identity.
Rubio reacted this Monday on X to a message from the State Department announcing the review of all Afghans admitted to the country during Joe Biden's administration.
The official statement warned that anyone who poses a threat to national security or U.S. citizens will be expelled from the territory.
In response, Marco Rubio wrote: “The Trump Administration will protect our people and preserve our national identity,” in support of the measure promoted by the White House.
The State Department noted that the review process is part of the government's efforts to strengthen immigration controls and ensure that there are no gaps in the entry procedures implemented following the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
President Trump's immigration policy has been one of the central pillars of his second term, focusing on the deportation of foreigners with criminal records, increased border security, and the review of visas granted under the previous administration.
Rubio, regarded as one of the most influential figures in the presidential cabinet, has reiterated on several occasions that the goal of the Executive is to ensure that immigration is managed in a legal, orderly, and secure manner, prioritizing the interests of the American people.
The White House defended that Donald Trump has done more than any other president to curb legal and illegal immigration in the United States by implementing historic restrictions, suspending asylum processes, and revoking immigration benefits.
Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the government's priority is to admit only those who "love the United States, contribute value, and integrate into its culture."
In line with this policy, the president announced that migration from all Third World countries will be indefinitely suspended, claiming it poses a direct threat to national security.
Trump also proposed eliminating federal subsidies for non-citizens, reviewing Green Cards, and revoking the citizenship of naturalized immigrants who "do not represent the values of Western civilization."
At the same time, Marco Rubio strongly supported a military operation led by Trump in the Caribbean, aimed at dismantling narco-terrorist groups.
The Secretary of State defended that the United States has the right to protect itself "without asking for permission" and criticized the hypocrisy of European governments that question the operation while demanding military protection in other regions.
