The Cuban announcer René Parapal Reinoso passed away in the early hours of this Wednesday, as confirmed by mourning messages circulated from the radio community and by colleagues who mourned the loss of one of the recognized voices of radio on the island.
Parapal was identified as a professional who made his mark at various radio stations and, in his later years, remained connected to nationally recognized platforms.
Parapal voiced programs on Radio Rebelde such as "Así," "A esta hora," and "Haciendo Radio," and had a journey that began at the municipal station Radio Camoa, in San José de las Lajas (currently the province of Mayabeque).
Over time, his work expanded to other stations, including Radio Cadena Habana, as well as national broadcasters such as Radio Reloj and Radio Progreso, where his presence solidified a career associated with informative broadcasting and listener support.
In Radio Rebelde, one of its most memorable segments was the magazine "At this Hour," where — according to the widely shared recognition — it achieved a special connection with the audience "thanks to its charisma and professionalism."
The station's team described his death as a "profound loss" for Radio Cubana, both for his professional and human values.
The death also sparked personal reactions from abroad.
The journalist Javier Díaz, from Univisión, wrote that he received the news “with great sadness” and remembered Parapal as a mentor in his early days.
In his testimony, he described him as a versatile broadcaster with a "unique voice" who supported him from a young age and even left him in charge of some programs during his vacations, including the popular show "Órbita", which—according to what he shared—was one of the most successful on the local station.
According to the information released, at the family's request, the body will be cremated.
Both colleagues and the media, as well as listeners, have continued to share messages of condolence, highlighting the impact of his voice in radio programming and the void left by his absence in a medium where he became a reference for several generations.
