The Hispanic-Cuban TikToker Ainara Quesada (@ainaraquesada__) once again spoke about her connection to Cuba, and this time she did so to respond to the criticism she has received for her recent trip to the island. In a video posted on TikTok, the young woman shared that she has been “in bed for three days” because she returned with a virus from the island, and took the opportunity to clarify several comments from her followers.
“Every time I go to Cuba, it’s the same. If I show the reality I live in, I am told that I don't show what is really happening. And if I show what is happening, I’m told that they will ban me from entering the country”, said Ainara, visibly tired of the controversies surrounding each of her family trips.
The influencer, daughter of a Spanish mother and a Cuban father, stated that she understands the frustration of many Cubans, but reminded that her intention is not to do journalism, but to share what she experiences when visiting her family. "You have criticized me a lot for going to Cuba, but I am not to blame for the fact that half of my family is from there. One must be ignorant not to know what is happening," she affirmed.
She also responded to those who accused her of frivolity for posting a video of herself buying ice cream in Havana. “If my aunt wants ice cream, I go and buy it, even if it's the most expensive and I have to travel all over Havana. Why wouldn't I do it? Is it a crime?” she commented.
The video generated hundreds of reactions, most of which were supportive. “You're right to go whenever you want, family is family, period,” wrote one user. Another internet user added, “I will also continue going to Cuba because I can't bring all my relatives to Europe. Let others say what they want.”
Some Cuban followers also came to her defense. "The situation in Cuba is not just about long lines; it's about the lack of freedom. It's not your fault; the blame lies with the dictatorship," commented a user. Others emphasized her sincerity and the affection she shows for her roots.
Ainara, who had already reflected in previous videos on what it means to have "two different nationalities," once again made it clear that her relationship with Cuba is deep and emotional.
