The artistic community of Bayamo mourned the passing of Ercili Bory Casate, affectionately known as "Cilita," a prominent art instructor, show director, and cultural promoter, whose death was confirmed this Wednesday by local media.
According to Radio Ciudad Monumento, Bory was a key figure in promoting Granma's culture, the manager of the dance project Arcoiris en Movimiento, and the daughter of the also-remembered artist Roberto Bory.
Graduated from the School of Art Instructors in 1989, she dedicated more than three decades to teaching and artistic direction.
The passing of the renowned creator sparked a wave of condolences and tributes on social media, where colleagues, authorities, and friends remembered her dedication to the arts and her ongoing support for community projects.
According to CMKX Radio Bayamo, the first secretary of the Communist Party in Granma, Yudelkis Ortiz Barceló, stated: “Martí said: ‘Death is not true when the work of life has been well fulfilled.’ Under that premise, today we bid farewell to you, dear Cilita, talented artist, beautiful woman, and tireless worker.”
The governor of Granma, Yanetsy Terry Gutiérrez, also expressed her condolences on her Facebook profile and highlighted the artist's legacy: “Your mastery, your teaching, and virtuosity will forever be etched in Granma's culture. Thank you for so much, for your life devoted to art and dance.”
Similarly, close friends shared memories and farewell messages.
“God, what sad news, how painful it is to know that someone who was an icon of culture for years is no longer with us. Rest in peace, Cilita,” wrote the user Leya CF.
Yordan Roberto León Rodríguez also expressed his condolences: “Eternal light to your soul. Condolences to family, friends, and colleagues in the artistic and cultural world.”
Ercili Bory Casate leaves an indelible legacy in dance and in the artistic training of several generations in Granma.
Her passion for art and her dedication to the local culture made her one of the most beloved and respected figures in the Bayamo cultural scene.
