A Cuban woman in the United States went viral on TikTok after recording herself frustrated by the noise from her neighbors. What seemed like a peaceful morning of reading turned into a public complaint with a hint of controversy. “I’m about to lose it,” she says at the beginning of the video. “I step out onto the porch to read for a bit, and listen with your own ears… they have the music blaring, and it’s annoying,” she complains while showing the neighborhood.
Without a second thought, she throws out the phrase that sparked the comments: “I'm sure they are Cubans, because they are the ones who usually play the music at full volume”. And just to add to the drama, she finishes with a scream that has now become a meme: “Turn down the music!”.
The protagonist is Dania Ferro (@daniaferro_author), a content creator living in Lehigh Acres, Florida, who often shares her thoughts on social media. However, this time her tone was anything but relaxed. “It's just that Cubans don't realize,” she says, a mix of annoyance and resignation in her voice, making it clear that, although she lives in the United States, she can't escape the classic “party neighbor in the neighborhood.”
The comments came quickly. Some supported her, defending the right to peace: “Respect has been lost,” “The music is for oneself, not for the neighborhood,” wrote several users. But others criticized her with humor and sarcasm: “Thank God I'm not your neighbor,” “You are the president of the CDR of the condominium,” or “Neither enjoys nor lets others enjoy,” were among the most shared.
True to her style, Dania didn't hold back. “Here in this country, music is for you, learn that,” she firmly replied to a user. She also clarified that she personally spoke with the neighbors and they eventually turned down the volume. “They were Cubans, yes, but very nice. Problem solved,” she assured, adding that they were “new arrivals from Miami.”
Nevertheless, the noise of the video continued to resonate on TikTok. Among those who defended Latin joy and those who preferred the peace of silence, the debate remained open. And although the volume decreased, its phrase has already secured a place in the internet repertoire: "They are definitely Cubans."
