The content creator Anita la Cubanita (@anita.cubanita06) shared on social media the exciting and challenging moments of her departure from Cuba to Costa Rica, along with her partner and her young child, in search of a better life.
In a series of videos posted on her TikTok account, Anita showcased the process from the preparations for her trip, the moment they boarded the plane to Nicaragua, to their arrival by land in San José, the capital of Costa Rica.
Once settled in her new home, the young woman expressed her gratitude to "that beautiful country" for welcoming her with open arms and shared her first experience visiting a local market, where the abundance and variety of food amazed her.
I am so impressed that I am at a loss for words. The reality check was too harsh. I have never seen so much food in one place. Knowing that there are so many things you can't even see in your country. I can't explain what it feels like to go to a market and find such a variety of fruits, vegetables, meats, everything, she expressed, visibly moved.
The influencer highlighted that in Cuba, food is scarce and prices are becoming increasingly unaffordable for most families, making the experience of facing abundance in Costa Rica quite shocking.
It’s incredible to see that people can buy what they need without worry, because it’s accessible, he added in another video.
Now, Anita begins a new chapter in her life in Costa Rican territory, aware that it won't be easy to adapt or achieve her goals, but convinced that the effort will be worthwhile.
Her testimony reflects the feelings of thousands of Cubans who have left the island in recent years, driven by the economic crisis, a lack of freedoms, and the difficult living conditions under the communist regime. For many, like Anita, emigrating is not a choice but the only possible way out.
