A Cuban living in the United States shared on TikTok the process of building her house in Cuba, a dream she claims is being realized "with a lot of sacrifice, a lot of love, and a lot of hope." In the video, posted by the user @adianetttt, viewers can see how the home has transformed from a crumbling structure to a nearly finished house, with new walls, a roof in progress, and a spacious porch that is beginning to take shape.
“That's how we bought it and that's how it's turning out,” she wrote alongside the images, captured in a peaceful area of the interior of the country. In the comments, Adianet revealed that the property cost her $11,000 and that she has already invested over $60,000 in its renovation. “It cost us 11k, each wall 3,500 plus materials — there are two — the slab 7k plus everything else. Believe me, with materials, labor, and trips, it has gone over 60, and that's being careful,” she explained.
The video, set to the song "Gracias por tanto" by Leoni Torres, has garnered thousands of views and dozens of supportive messages. “A mountain of blessings, what a lovely home,” commented one follower. “Returning to your little land is neither a setback nor a failure, it is a conscious decision,” wrote another in one of the most shared messages of the post.
But not everyone agreed. Some users criticized his decision to invest so much money in a country in crisis and under an authoritarian regime. "In Cuba, it's not worth having anything until the government falls," one commented. Another was more blunt: "With 60,000 dollars, I could buy a house in Spain and still have money left over."
Adianet, however, responded calmly to the criticism. “Everyone invests their money where they feel happy, and that's that,” she wrote, making it clear that she has no regrets. Her response resonated with other Cubans abroad. “We are Cubans, and the day we are forced to leave, we will have to return. Those of us who are mothers know that one day we will come back for the pieces of our lives that we left behind,” reflected one user.
