In what could be the first feminicide in Cuba in 2026, a mother of three was killed by a man who had been her partner, just hours after the year began, in the city of Santiago de Cuba.

The victim was identified as Yuleidis Sánchez Rodríguez, 43 years old and mother of two daughters and a son aged 14, reported the communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook.

The crime occurred this Thursday on the tourist road in the Altamira neighborhood, near the old La Turbina motel, now known as Bella Vista.

The woman left her home early in the morning to deliver food to some relatives and was attacked by her ex-partner, identified as Neudis Callis Cureaux, 43 years old, who is currently at large, said Mayeta.

According to the information, Callis Cureaux stalked Yuleidis and stabbed her twice: once in the neck and once in the leg, which caused her death.

Mayeta pointed out, citing sources, that the attacker is a "'criminal,' even rejected by his own family" and that he repeatedly threatened Yuleidis after she decided to end their relationship. The man lives in the Nuevo Van Van neighborhood, known as "La Micro," in the same Altamira.

The communicator warned that "this femicide was not an isolated incident, but rather the result of previous ignored threats, which today leave three orphaned children and a devastated family," and called for the immediate capture of the perpetrator.

In the comments, a woman who claimed to know the suspect stated that he had threatened a friend on several occasions, even with a machete. She reported that, after being arrested multiple times for this reason, he was quickly released because he was a friend of the police sector chief.

The murder of Yuleidis has not yet been reported by the Gender Observatory of Alas Tensas and the platform Yo Sí Te Creo Cuba, independent organizations that maintain a sub-register of femicides in Cuba. During the recently concluded year of 2025, they documented 45 crimes of gender-based violence in the country.

The authorities and the official press, as usual, have not reported on the violent attack that cut short the life of the Cuban mother, a tragedy that has caused shock in Santiago de Cuba in the early hours of the new year.
