A traffic accident recorded in Cauto Cristo, a municipality in Granma, resulted in four people suffering multiple traumatic injuries and caused severe damage to a local ambulance.
The accident occurred around 7:00 PM on January 1st on the central highway, about four kilometers from the main town, near the Papi Lastre community.
According to Radio Bayamo, the collision involved a combustion vehicle and an animal-drawn cart (a guaranda), and according to a preliminary investigation, shared responsibility was determined for both drivers.
Lieutenant Noel Rodríguez Aguilar, the traffic officer of the municipality, detailed the violations of the Traffic Code: the driver of the jeep should have reduced speed upon noticing an unlit animal-drawn vehicle on the road.
For its part, the driver of the guaranda violated Article 73 of the Traffic Code, which prohibits the circulation of this type of vehicle after 6:00 PM.
The injured patients were initially attended to at the Joel Benítez Polyclinic in Cauto Cristo and were later transferred to the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes General Teaching Hospital for more accurate diagnoses and treatments.
Among those affected is a 14-year-old girl.
None of the injured individuals are in life-threatening condition, according to the medical report.
The officer added that the units responsible for road safety regularly warn the animal-drawn transport drivers about the consequences of operating outside the permitted hours.
The accident also affected the vehicle of the municipal Health system, which leads to interruptions in patient care, concluded the note from Radio Bayamo.
