Cuban-American legislators from Florida publicly celebrated the capture of Nicolás Maduro following the U.S. operation in Venezuela.

The event was described as a “historic” turning point for the hemisphere, according to statements shared on social media this Saturday.

The congressman Carlos A. Giménez stated that he spoke with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and asserted that President Donald Trump “has changed the course of history in our hemisphere.”

"Our country and the world are safer because of it," he/she wrote.

Giménez compared the action to "the fall of the Berlin Wall" and emphasized the impact on Florida for concentrating "the majority of the Venezuelan, Cuban, and Nicaraguan exiles".

He added that the community he represents was "overwhelmed with emotion and hope" and expressed gratitude to Trump and the military for the "stellar military operation."

On her part, the congresswoman María Elvira Salazar declared that “the narco-dictatorship of Maduro has ENDED” and described Maduro as a “narcoterrorist,” stating that “he will now face justice in the United States on American soil.”

In his message, he stated that the operation sends “a clear message” that the U.S. “will not tolerate drug terrorism” in the hemisphere and thanked Trump, Rubio, and members of the Armed Forces and security agencies for their “leadership,” “courage,” and “commitment” to “justice, security, and freedom.”

In a second post, Salazar stated that, from El Arepazo in Doral, "the Venezuelan people celebrate with hope and excitement" that "one of their greatest tormentors" is facing U.S. justice.

He also stated that "unstoppable winds of freedom" are blowing in the hemisphere and added: "Venezuela is about to be free... and Cuba is on its way."
