The Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla responded this Monday to the U.S. president Donald Trump following his recent statements in which he asserted that "Cuba is ready to fall" after the capture of Nicolás Maduro, stating that the Cuban people are willing to "give their lives" to defend their sovereignty.

In a message posted on his official X (Twitter) account, Rodríguez Parilla accused Trump of "demonstrating complete ignorance about Cuba" and of repeating "the agenda of lies from Cuban-American politicians." He also described the president's words as "blasphemy and a threat" against the Cuban people.

“Our valiant people, true to their history of struggle, will defend their nation against any imperialist aggression. For this land, we are willing to give our lives,” wrote the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The chancellor's statements come at a time of heightened tension between Washington and Havana, following Trump's declaration that "Cuba is about to fall" during a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One, just two days after the U.S. military operation that resulted in Maduro's capture in Caracas.

The U.S. leader then stated that the island "no longer has income" following the collapse of the flow of Venezuelan oil, and that the fall of the Havana regime "seems inevitable."

Other figures from the U.S. government joined these statements. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hinted that Cuba could be the next target of Washington, while Senator Lindsey Graham warned that the days of the regime were “numbered”, describing the island as “the head of the snake” of hemispheric communism.

In previous days, Miguel Díaz-Canel had also promised to “give his blood and his life” for Maduro and for Cuba, in a tone that reinforces the stance of confrontation and resistance against the perceived threats from the United States.

With this new response, Rodríguez Parrilla maintains the rhetoric of military challenge and historical victimization that the regime has used for decades in the face of international pressure, rallying around the narrative of “anti-imperialist resistance” that it tries to uphold while the island is undergoing one of its worst economic and political crises in decades.
