Without prior notice, Cuba's Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, is in Venezuela participating in an official event honoring Cuban and Venezuelan fighters who died during the U.S. military intervention aimed at capturing the dictator and former president Nicolás Maduro.
According to Rodríguez himself on the social network X, the tribute was held alongside the Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, and other high-ranking representatives of the Bolivarian government, during a ceremony for promotions and awards to those fallen and injured “in defense of the homeland.”
"The blood of both nations melted into Venezuelan soil, as befits sister nations," the Cuban chancellor wrote in his post, accompanied by images of the event.
The event is part of the official narrative of Havana and Caracas following the recent developments in Venezuela, and it seeks to reinforce the discourse of political and symbolic alliance between both governments, even amid strong tensions with the United States.
The publication by the chancellor also confirms the direct presence of high-ranking Cuban officials at official ceremonies of the interim Venezuelan government, emphasizing the continuity of the strategic relationship between the two countries.
The presence of Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez in Venezuela had not been announced beforehand nor confirmed through official channels from Havana or Caracas.
Until the moment of its publication on social media X, there was no public information regarding the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs' trip to the South American country, suggesting that the visit remained under the media and diplomatic radar.
It was Bruno Rodríguez himself who revealed his presence in Venezuelan territory by sharing images and messages from the tribute event alongside Delcy Rodríguez. The lack of prior communication reinforces the discreet nature of the visit and raises questions about other meetings or efforts made during his stay, in a context of high regional tension and increasing international scrutiny regarding the relationship between the governments of Cuba and Venezuela.
