A routine check ended in the detention of a Cuban citizen in Monterrey after municipal authorities detected alleged irregularities in the documentation of the motorcycle he was riding.
The incident occurred in the Residencial Puerta de Hierro neighborhood, to the west of the city, while agents were carrying out preventive surveillance duties, reported the local media MVS Noticias.
The officers noticed a motorcyclist who irregularly entered the parking lot of a shopping center, as well as riding without a helmet and riding on the sidewalk, behaviors that prompted them to signal him to stop.
The driver has been identified as Emilio Luis “N”, 30 years old, originally from Cuba. When asked for the vehicle documents, a black Islo Trip 150 motorcycle with license plates from the State of Mexico, the police noticed that the registration card did not match the actual series of the unit, specifically in the last digits.
In light of the suspicion of possible alterations in the documents, the man was detained and the motorcycle secured. Both were taken to the facilities of the Monterrey Police, where the case was placed under the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which will be responsible for determining the legal status of the individual involved.
So far, authorities have not reported whether the Cuban individual is facing formal charges or if his immigration status in Mexico will be reviewed as part of the process, ABC Noticias added.
The case adds to other recent incidents that have raised concerns among Cuban migrants in Mexican territory, many of whom are facing complex legal situations after seemingly minor issues.
Editor's Note
After the publication of this article on January 12, 2026, the wife of the mentioned Cuban citizen contacted the editorial team of CiberCuba to provide her account of the events.
According to her explanation, the detention of her husband was due to an administrative error at the store where they purchased the motorcycle, and not a wrongful action on his part.
The woman stated that the motorcycle was purchased on June 11, 2025, at a branch of the Villareal store located in Portal Lincoln, García municipality, Nuevo León, Mexico. She assured that the ownership document provided by the establishment contained a number that did not match that of the vehicle, an error that was later detected by the authorities during a police check.
According to the wife's account, the store manager acknowledged the mistake after reviewing the internal records, which helped clarify the situation and led to her husband's release. She stated that he bore no responsibility for the events and has an impeccable record as a citizen and family man.
