The Cuban baseball will once again be represented in the international market of Major League Baseball with the signing of Karel Naranjo and Rothelmnay Marquetti, two young talents who will finalize agreements with MLB organizations starting January 15, the beginning of the new international period.
According to the information provided by journalist Francys Romero on the social network Facebook, shortstop Karel Naranjo, originally from Granma, is considered one of the most promising prospects of his generation.
The left-handed hitter will sign with the Cleveland Guardians for an estimated bonus of $650,000. He is known for his offensive explosiveness, natural power, and defensive versatility, with the ability to play shortstop and various positions in the infield, attributes that make him a highly interesting prospect for the organization.
For his part, added the communicator, the gardener Rothelmnay Marquetti will sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates when the international signing period officially opens.
Marquetti left Cuba in 2021 for the Dominican Republic, after beginning his development in the youth categories of Havana baseball. His profile is based on contact hitting, speed, and defense—qualities that align with the training approach of the Pirates.
Both firms confirm the constant presence of Cuban talent in the MLB system, despite the challenges many players face in making their way outside the island.
