Cuban authorities reported the integration of seven photovoltaic solar parks into the National Electric System (SEN) in the province of Las Tunas, which together provide 53 megawatts (MW), an amount deemed inadequate given the severe energy crisis the island is facing.

According to a report from National Television, the synchronization of two additional parks of only 2MW is also planned, along with the addition of 5 MW more in March, which would increase the installed capacity in the province to about 62 MW.

The commissioning of the Veguita solar park, which would contribute 21MW to the national electricity system, is also still pending.

Among the recently inaugurated facilities in that province is the Blanca Rosa solar park, located in the municipality of Majibacoa, with an installed capacity of 5 MW.

The project includes 9,040 solar panels and 18 concentrator boxes that receive the direct current generated by solar radiation, explained Omilton Rodríguez, director of the Electric Company in that province.

This energy is then transferred to two 5 MW inverters, from where it is sent to the primary container for synchronization with the SEN, he detailed.

Despite the progress represented by the integration of renewable energy, experts warn that generation remains marginal compared to national demand and the recurrent collapse of the electrical system, characterized by prolonged blackouts, fuel shortages, and thermal plants out of service.
