The Cuban reggaeton artist El Chulo broke his silence from the immigration detention center in the United States, Alligator Alcatraz. In a phone conversation with journalist Maylin Legañoa, the artist denied having any ties to the criminal gang Latin Kings and stated that his only purpose in life has been music.

“I’m here at Alcatraz,” he confirmed at the beginning of the call. When Legañoa asked him about the ICE report that identifies him as a active member of the Latin Kings and as an undocumented immigrant awaiting deportation, he replied: “The only thing I have to say is that I don't know what that is. All I have done in my entire life is music.”

The artist, whose real name is Abel Díaz Rodríguez, insisted on his innocence and firmly denied being part of that criminal gang.

El Chulo also clarified that he never had contact with members of that organization during his judicial process in 2017 and emphasized that although he was detained for nearly a year, he was never sent to a prison as such.

During the interview, the singer described the harsh conditions he faces in the immigration detention center: "The conditions are really terrible. They don't give medication to the inmates who bring medical prescriptions from outside; they just don't provide it. We shower only twice a week."

The artist added that the lack of sleep is another serious problem: “They don’t let you sleep because there are many white lights on all the time. It’s something catastrophic. I think this is the worst thing I’ve experienced in my life.”

El Chulo took the opportunity during the call to express his gratitude for the support he has received: “To my followers, thank you in advance for your support. To the entire Cuban community, I am very happy and grateful. Also, to my family and my team of lawyers, who are working hand in hand with me to resolve all this quickly, God willing.”

The artist, arrested on January 22, remains in ICE custody awaiting a final decision regarding his immigration status in the United States.
