The Republican congresswoman María Elvira Salazar backed the recent statements made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the intervention of President Donald Trump's administration in Venezuela and praised the firmness of the president against the “narco-terrorists of the continent.”

In a message posted on her X account, the representative from Florida stated: “Secretary Marco Rubio is right, and it was about time. For too long Washington ignored our hemisphere while a narco-terrorist regime spread chaos that affects us here at home.”

Salazar added that "it's good to finally have a president who takes the security of our region seriously and confronts terrorists head-on," referring to President Trump's policy towards Latin America.

“Our hemisphere and the United States are safer when narco-terrorists are behind bars and U.S. law is enforced,” the congresswoman concluded.

His statements came after Marco Rubio, in his appearance before the Senate, defended the U.S. government's strategy in Venezuela, arguing that the intervention was “a huge strategic risk for the United States, not on the other side of the world, but in the hemisphere in which we all live.”

In an extensive testimony, Rubio outlined a transition plan divided into three phases and emphasized that Washington's central objective is to achieve a "friendly, stable, prosperous, and democratic Venezuela," where free and fair elections can take place with the full participation of all political sectors.

"In less than a month, we are further along than expected," she celebrated.

However, he also warned that cooperation is not unconditional. If the interim authorities deviate from the course or fail to fulfill their commitments, they are "prepared to use force."

Recently, María Elvira Salazar publicly reacted to the ultimatum issued by President Donald Trump against the Cuban regime and stated that the current moment marks a turning point for Havana.
