A new video published on TikTok by user Diario Ruiz (@maxelfamosodetiktok) has profoundly moved thousands of Cubans. In the footage, the woman shows how they experienced the painful farewell of her nephew, who returned to Cuba with his parents after more than two years living in the United States.
"Here you see me with a broken soul, after having cried all night knowing that my nephew, after two and a half years here in the United States, his parents made the sad and desperate decision to return to Cuba," she recounted tearfully. As she explained, the family was facing serious difficulties with their immigration paperwork and decided to return because they could no longer bear the uncertainty.
The aunt recounted that she decided to gift the boy a toy car that he had been asking for, so he could take it to the Island as a keepsake. “Every time he looked at it, he would remember his aunt,” she explained. However, the hardest part was the final farewell: “I can’t explain how sad it was the night before they left. They cried a lot, him and my son Aarón, because they spent so much time together and they love each other very much.”
The video quickly gathered dozens of supportive messages. “How tough, oh my God, it’s not easy,” wrote one user. “I’m crying with you,” commented another. Many resonated with the pain of family separation and the reality faced by thousands of Cubans who, after years of struggle in exile, end up returning to the Island.
Visibly affected, the aunt concluded her message with a blend of sadness and resignation: “I hope God is with you and love continues to unite us as a family. This time, I couldn't do more than what I did.” Her testimony reflects a painful truth: the weight of farewell, the frustration of unfinished dreams, and the love that persists despite the distance.
