For the third consecutive day, the three reference currencies in Cuba have not reported any changes in their selling prices.
Without changes, the informal currency market on the island opened again this Thursday, marking another day of stability for the three reference currencies in the island's economic landscape.
At 7:00 a.m. on January 29, the dollar holds at 485 CUP that it reached on Monday, as reported in the daily brief by the independent media elTOQUE.
Also unchanged is the euro, which today is trading again at 530 CUP. The European currency has remained stable for eight consecutive days in its average selling value.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), for its part, is currently maintained at 400 CUP.
The three reference currencies in the Cuban informal market thus consolidate a momentary stability, while at the economic level on the island, a growing uncertainty persists amid an energy crisis that shows signs of worsening.
Exchange rate today 01/29/2026 - 7:23 a.m. in Cuba:
Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 485 CUP.
Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 530 CUP.
Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to elTOQUE: 400 CUP.
According to the models from the Cuban Observatory of Currencies and Finance (OMFi) -revealed at the beginning of this month- the projections for January anticipated an upward trend:
Dollar: central projection of 465 CUP (range between 454 and 480 CUP).
Euro: projection of 505 CUP (range between 479 and 515 CUP).
MLC: estimated at around 427 CUP (ranging between 398 and 440 CUP).
As the month comes to an end, the current values of the two main currencies - with the dollar valued at 485 CUP and the euro at 530 CUP - indicate that both currencies have exceeded expectations, while the Freely Convertible Currency is far below what the OMFi predicted.
Such a scenario reinforces the perception of a market under pressure from the uncertainty and distrust that continues to be generated by the Cuban peso.
