A group of Cuban women residing in the United States shared on TikTok their frustrating experience after purchasing a storage unit at auction for $300. They expected to find valuable items, but only came across old junk and losses.
“Gentlemen, we bought one of those storage units they sell at auction, and let me tell you, think carefully before investing your money,” warns a Cuban residing in the United States in a video posted on TikTok, amid laughter and disappointment.
The women, based in South Florida, decided to try their luck in the business of abandoned storage unit auctions, which have become quite popular on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, where some buyers have found jewelry, watches, and collectibles worth thousands of dollars. However, their experience was very different.
"We invested 300 dollars in the storage and it was all garbage. There was nothing here," laments one of the participants as she shows old boxes, broken lamps, and used toys. "If that ten-thousand-dollar watch that was found wasn't here, it was all just junk," she jokes with resigned laughter.
In the video, the Cuban woman asserts that she even thought the storage room belonged to a wealthy person. "I saw things belonging to doctors, to physicians, and I thought, 'this must be an old lady who has a gold chain.' But there was nothing, nothing," she humorously remarks.
Among the objects found, there is an antique lamp, some decorative figures, and a pack of Pokémon cards that they plan to check “to see if we can at least recover 10 dollars.”
"Think it over carefully before buying a storage unit," concludes the Cuban, advising those who want to venture into this type of investment to start with smaller units so as not to lose too much money.
The video has racked up thousands of views and comments from other Cubans in the United States, many of whom share similar experiences with storage unit auctions. “Sometimes you win, but most of the time you lose,” one user wrote. Another added humorously, “At least they had fun cleaning up someone else's junk.”
