Three citizens were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a motorist in Santiago de Cuba, following a trial held at the Provincial People's Court, as reported by the Provincial Prosecutor's Office on Facebook.

According to the official statement, the events occurred when the accused conspired to steal an engine with the aim of selling its parts in the black market.

To execute the plan, they gathered in the vicinity of the Alejandro Urgellés Multipurpose Hall, a place described as dark and remote from the residences.

One of the individuals took on surveillance duties at the location, while the other two headed toward the vicinity of Antonio Maceo Revolution Square in search of a victim.

There, they contacted a motorcyclist and asked him to take them to the spot where a third person was supposedly waiting for them.

During the journey, one of the attackers, armed with a knife, struck the victim from behind while he was in the vehicle. He inflicted a wound in the abdominal area that punctured the liver, the right kidney, and the colon.

Between the two attackers, they inflicted about 27 wounds, while the third accomplice seized the engine and fled the scene.

Subsequently, the accused moved the motorcycle to another location, where they disassembled it into parts for resale.

During a search carried out in their homes, authorities seized parts of the engine and other belongings of the victim.

In the trial, the prosecutor requested the Court to impose a sentence of perpetual imprisonment, a request that was granted following the presentation of evidence. Additionally, they were imposed the accessory penalty of deprivation of rights.

The case was classified as a murder offense, as provided for in article 344, paragraphs a) and m) of the Cuban Penal Code (Law 151/22), and the defendants were charged as co-authors in accordance with article 20.1.2 c) of the same regulation.

The Prosecutor's Office stated that during the processing of the case and the oral trial, the procedural guarantees and due process established in the Constitution and the Criminal Procedure Law were respected.
