The Holguín General Directorate of Education announced on Friday a set of measures to "maintain the continuity" of the educational process and ensure the safety of the school community in light of an “exceptional situation” related to the energy crisis, according to a note released this Friday by Periódico Ahora.
According to the statement, the strategy is based on the principles of the III Perfectioning of the National Education System, which —as stated in the text— enables each center to conceive and implement an educational project and an institutional curriculum tailored to the needs and potentials of each institution and its territory.
The administration emphasized as a "fundamental premise" the need to maintain educational services at 100% of the institutions, applying variations to accommodate all enrolled students.
Among the alternatives for students who cannot attend in person, he mentioned the use of worksheets, sharing files, explanatory videos, and materials designed for contexts with limited connectivity.
The text adds that students who arrive at school, even if they do so after the established entrance time in the school regulations, will be attended to.
Regarding the support for working families, the statement indicates that child care centers and semi-internships will continue to provide services "as long as conditions allow."
For children and students who cannot be transported due to transportation issues, it was decided to carry out temporary transfers to institutions close to the community, always "upon request from the family."
Regarding the internal centers, the note states that the students are currently enjoying days off and that, when it is time for their return, they will do so at institutions close to their locality.
Add that the training centers will connect internal students with their municipalities of residence to ensure the continuity of the school year, and that they will integrate with nearby institutions to develop practical work experience; additionally, they will receive instruction two days a week in the face-to-face modality.
Finally, the Administration framed the plan within the principle of school-family-community integration, ensuring that all students will receive educational attention through approved alternatives in each institution, with the "essential" support of families and community factors.
Classes at the University of Holguín have also been suspended due to the energy crisis affecting the country, which has caused problems with electricity and fuel supply.
This situation has worsened in recent weeks, leaving many sectors without the necessary services to operate normally.
The lack of electricity and fuel hinders the normal functioning of these centers, affecting both teaching staff and students. This problem is not exclusive to Holguín, as other universities have also had to postpone their academic activities.
