An anonymous complaint received by the editorial team of CiberCuba highlights the difficult situation faced by university students trying to travel from Havana to the eastern part of the country due to a failure in the state railway transportation system.
According to the testimony, the day before, the students were informed that they would be transported by train to their home provinces. However, upon arriving at the terminal, they were told that the train was broken and that an exact departure time had not yet been specified.
The situation particularly affected students from more remote areas, such as Baracoa and Maisí, who typically face journeys of more than 24 hours under normal conditions.
According to the complaint, transportation would only be guaranteed to the provincial capital, leaving students who reside in municipalities without assured means to complete their journey home, effectively stranded without viable alternatives.
"In the current conditions of the country, it is impossible to afford private transportation, as travel prices are skyrocketing," states the message sent to our newsroom.
The complainant describes the situation as unjustifiable, arguing that the condition of the train was not checked in advance and that students are being kept waiting indefinitely, without assurance of their complete transportation to their home municipalities.
CiberCuba protects the identity of the source and publishes this report due to its evident public interest, amidst the widespread transportation crisis affecting thousands of Cubans across the country.
