The Cuban ambassador to Mexico asserted on Monday that flights to the island from Mexican territory have not been suspended, despite the fuel crisis affecting the country and impacting the operations of several international airlines.
In a post on Facebook, diplomat Eugenio Martínez stated that all airlines connecting Mexico and Cuba are maintaining their regular frequencies and denied that there is any interruption of flights to the island.
The statements come amidst a growing energy crisis in Cuba, characterized by prolonged power outages, fuel shortages, and difficulties in supply at the country's airports.
In recent hours, several foreign airlines have acknowledged adjustments or temporary suspensions of operations to Cuba due to a shortage of aviation fuel, resulting in uncertainty among travelers and tour operators.
The ambassador did not provide additional details regarding fuel supply at Cuban airports or potential future impacts, stating only that, for now, air connections from Mexico remain active.
In this regard, flights between Miami and Cuba continue to operate despite the severe fuel crisis affecting the island, as confirmed by a spokesperson from Miami International Airport.
According to Local 10 News, no flights to or from Cuba have been canceled so far, despite the fuel shortage that has caused blackouts, rationing, and serious impacts in various sectors of the country.
The spokesperson explained that the journey between Miami and Cuba is short enough that airlines operating from Miami International Airport do not need to refuel on Cuban territory, which has allowed operations to continue.
For its part, Air Canada announced today the immediate suspension of its flights to Cuba due to a fuel shortage in aviation on the island, a situation that impacts the reliability of supplies at Cuban airports.
