The Miami-Dade County Commissioner, Natalie Milian Orbis, reiterated her call to President Donald Trump to review and suspend the federal export licenses related to Cuba that, under the guise of humanitarian purposes, would be allowing the shipment of luxury and recreational goods that ultimately benefit the elite of the regime.

In a statement sent to CiberCuba, the official urged immediate action to halt what she considers an abuse of humanitarian exemptions.

"Humanitarian exemptions were never intended to finance luxuries for the upper echelons of Cuban communism. Ferraris, jacuzzis, and jet skis do not feed families or provide medicine. They serve the regime's elite, not the Cuban people," stated Orbis.

Public records reveal luxury items

The commissioner noted that records published on the Transparency Page of the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector list luxury items linked to federal licenses related to Cuba, which she described as "brazen."

Orbis also confirmed on the social media platform X that it has sent formal letters requesting the immediate suspension of these authorizations and strict enforcement of U.S. sanctions.

"Sanctions should be applied as they are written. If exports for humanitarian purposes are authorized, they must be limited to basic needs such as food and medicine, not luxury goods," he stated.

Recognizes congress members from South Florida

Milian Orbis also acknowledged the role of Cuban-American lawmakers in the effort to toughen the policy towards Havana.

"I acknowledge Congressman Carlos Giménez, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, and Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart for leading the effort to end these licenses and demand real enforcement of the law," he stated.

Unanimous resolution in Miami-Dade

Orbis's call is not new. Last January, the commissioner published a letter addressed to Trump requesting the suspension of all federal licenses and authorizations related to Cuba until there are complete audits and transparency.

In that context, it was highlighted that the Miami-Dade Commissioner's Board unanimously approved a resolution supporting the measure.

"The Miami-Dade County unanimously voted to urge President Trump to suspend all federal licenses related to Cuba until there are complete audits and transparency," he emphasized.

"It is time to enforce the law without hesitation."

From the same platform where congress members from South Florida called for a stronger blow against Havana, Orbis warned that the regime is facing unprecedented pressure and that the time has come to act firmly.

The statements were made at the headquarters of the Cuban Democratic Directorate during a press conference attended by Carlos Giménez and Mario Díaz-Balart, along with organizations from the exile community, activists, and local officials.

For the commissioner, allowing luxury exports under the pretext of humanitarian aid represents a direct benefit for the leadership of the Communist Party, while the Cuban people remain mired in scarcity and crisis.
