Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis published a letter addressed to President Donald Trump in which she requests the suspension of all federal licenses and authorizations related to Cuba, aiming to prevent the communist regime from benefiting from U.S. funds or services.
The official accompanied the official statement from the Miami-Dade Board of Commissioners, which unanimously approved the resolution, with a strong message: “Miami-Dade County voted unanimously to urge President Trump to suspend all federal licenses related to Cuba until there are complete audits and transparency.”
He also stated, “We cannot allow a communist regime to exploit federal authorizations that harm the interests of the United States and our community.”
The commissioner also highlighted President Trump's actions in defense of freedom and hemispheric security, especially after the fall of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.
In his letter, he congratulated him for "his steadfastness in protecting the values of democracy and freeing the oppressed peoples of the Western Hemisphere."
Milian Orbis warned that the Cuban regime poses "a threat to the national security of the United States" and stated that Miami-Dade County "is ready to collaborate with the White House on all initiatives aimed at ending communism in Cuba and restoring freedom."
The statement reaffirms the historic commitment of the Cuban exile community in Miami to the democratic cause of the island and acknowledges the leadership of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in policy toward Cuba.
In this regard, the Miami City Commission unanimously approved the creation of a specialized task force that will investigate and oversee business licenses of companies that may have financial, administrative, or operational connections with the Cuban regime.
This measure, which will come into effect in the coming days, aims to ensure compliance with federal sanctions and prevent the government of Havana from being financially supported from U.S. territory.
Before, the Miami-Dade County tax collector, Dariel Fernández, had requested federal authorities to investigate a local company that, he said, "could be involved in financial arrangements" that involve or benefit the government of Cuba.
