This Friday, at the age of 81, Mirta Aleida Fernández Corrales passed away in Havana, a prominent broadcaster at Radio Enciclopedia and a symbol of the vocal elegance that distinguished several generations in the field.
"With deep sorrow, we inform that this Friday, the broadcaster Mirta Aleida Fernández Corrales passed away in Havana, one of the emblematic voices of Radio Enciclopedia, where she spent the majority of her career since beginning her artistic life in 1970," the institution officially announced.
A voice that accompanied generations
Fernández Corrales began his professional career in 1970 and since then he has forged a style characterized by elegance, discipline, and a deep respect for the spoken word.
Her warm and enveloping tone, with impeccable diction, made her a regular companion to millions of listeners.
His colleagues emphasized that he knew how to "convey intention in every phrase, imparting calmness or emphasis without being strident," allowing the reading to transform into an intimate dialogue with the audience.
Most of his career took place at Radio Enciclopedia, where he developed a sober yet musical style, perfectly aligned with the cultural mission of the station.
His professional journey was extensive: Radio Popular, Radio Internacional, centralized newsletters such as Su reportero RP for Radio Progreso, television news programs, musical and cultural segments, and shows like Por primera vez, a precursor to the popular Todo el mundo canta.
His voice was also heard on Radio Cadena Habana, C.O.C.O., Radio Metropolitana, Radio Ciudad de La Habana, and CMBF Radio Musical Nacional.
He also participated in Radio Reloj, bringing precision and cadence to one of the most demanding news formats.
A member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and recognized as an Artist of Merit of Cuban Radio, Mirta Aleida turned each program into an act of cultural responsibility.
Colleagues and executives remember her as a diligent professional, tireless worker, and advocate for proper discourse.
His passing has generated numerous expressions of sorrow. For many, his departure marks the end of an era of great broadcasters who elevated the quality of national radio.
“A voice departs, but its echo remains suspended in collective memory, like soft music in the shadows”, summarized a message shared by colleagues in the profession.
In August 2025, Radio Enciclopedia published an extensive profile dedicated to her, where colleagues described her with nicknames that conveyed more than any biography: “The eternal, the mysterious, the diva, the forever young, the immortal, the mistress of time.”
She was the presenter who had spent the most years at the station, and according to her colleagues, her occasional absence was enough to "trigger all the alarms," because her discipline was legendary.
The piece highlighted her natural elegance, always immaculate but without ostentation: “she knows how to present herself to shine appropriately for every occasion like a true lady of vocal art.”
She was also a mentor, ally, support, and point of reference for the younger announcers.
In June 2025, he turned 81, an age that his team often jokingly used to ensure he still had "just 18."
The article also highlighted one of its most remarkable virtues: the absolute mastery of figurative pronunciation.
"Any listener would dare to say that Mirta Aleida knows all the languages," it was read, as she articulated names and expressions in Czech, Japanese, French, Swedish, and other languages without hesitation, honoring one of the historical specializations of the broadcaster.
