A conflict over a debt of 50,000 Cuban pesos ended in tragedy in the city of Cienfuegos, according to the profile of Facebook Las Cosas de Fernanda.
The incident involves two men, residents of the neighborhoods Las Minas and Junco Sur. The victim was identified as Roger Hinojosa, who died after receiving seven stab wounds during a confrontation with another individual named Yasmani, who allegedly owed him money.
According to the publication, the dispute began after several discussions related to the debt payment. The amount reportedly increased under pressure and threats, which heightened the tension between both parties.
"It all started with a sum: 50,000 pesos. A debt that, instead of being resolved through dialogue or the mechanisms that human sense provides for these situations, became entwined with threats, pressure, and the language of fear. 'If you don't pay in ten days, it will be 70,000.' That phrase turned into a sentence that neither of them knew how to defuse," the text says.
On the day of the incident, the two men agreed to meet at one of their homes. There, a dispute escalated into a struggle that involved the use of a knife.
The result was Hinojosa's death and the arrest of Yasmani, who is now facing the legal consequences of the incident.
"Roger had the right to collect what he was owed, but he did not have the right to use intimidation as a bargaining chip. Yasmani had a moral obligation to honor his commitment, but he never had the right to take a life, no matter how much fear clouded his judgment. Both lost. Their families lost. The community lost," said the profile Las Cosas de Fernanda.
The case has caused an uproar in the Cienfuegos community, where residents lament that an economic dispute has ended with the loss of one life and another marked by a criminal process.
So far, no additional official details have been provided regarding the investigation.
