Tragedy on the National Highway: four dead and 17 injured in Sancti Spíritus

A mass accident that occurred around 11:00 PM on February 12 on the National Highway resulted in four fatalities and 17 injuries, two of which are in critical condition.

Escambray reported that the incident involved a Diana bus traveling from Havana to the eastern part of the country. The event occurred just a few kilometers from the Zaza bridge, in the province of Sancti Spíritus.

The injured are being treated at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial General Hospital in the city of Sancti Spíritus. The two patients in critical condition remain under specialized care. The four deceased have not yet been officially identified.

Accident involving the Ómnibus Diana

So far, the authorities have not specified the causes of the accident. The Cuban police have launched an investigation.

Authorities assure that the hospital has the necessary resources to care for the injured.

The tragic event brings the issue of road safety on Cuban highways back into focus, a common scene for traffic accidents with regrettable outcomes.
