Supermarket23, one of the main platforms used by Cuban émigrés to send food and essential products to their families on the island, announced the temporary suspension of new orders due to the growing fuel crisis affecting Cuba.
The company reported that its logistical capacity has been directly compromised and that, for the moment, they will only be able to complete the orders that have already been processed.
In a statement disseminated through its official channels, the company explained that, due to the severe energy crisis, its "logistical operations have been temporarily limited", and that its immediate priority is to fulfill previously acquired commitments.
The new orders will remain temporarily suspended until operational conditions exist that allow for the usual level of service to be guaranteed.
The company assured that its infrastructure remains active and that they are working to resume service as soon as possible.
“The absolute priority is to fulfill the commitments already made,” he emphasized, while thanking his clients for their understanding.
A worsening crisis: Shipping agencies announce restrictions
The decision by Supermarket23 comes in a context marked by increasing logistical challenges within Cuba.
On February 12th, several agencies that handle shipments and online purchases from abroad implemented exceptional measures to try to maintain their services in light of the energy collapse affecting the country.
The platform itself had previously stated that it would temporarily limit new orders to several provinces in order to “ensure the quality of service and delivery times.”
According to that notice, operations continued normally only in Havana, Isla de la Juventud, and the municipality of Pinar del Río, while for the rest of the country, orders would be subject to delays.
The total suspension now announced signifies a worsening of the situation and confirms that the energy crisis is directly impacting the logistics chain of companies that supply a large portion of the population through imports.
A shipping system to the limit
The interruption of new orders by Supermarket23 marks a critical point in the operation of platforms that allow Cubans abroad to support their families amid the economic and food crisis the country is facing.
The fuel shortage, which is already affecting public transportation, production, and basic services, is now directly impacting the distribution of food sent from abroad, a vital channel for thousands of households.
Meanwhile, thousands of customers are awaiting updates that will determine whether they can continue using these services, which have become essential for the survival of many families in Cuba.
