Upon arriving this Monday afternoon for a meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, Cuba's Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla was met by a small group of Cuban activists who shouted insults and slogans against the regime he represents.
The meeting with Albares, confirmed by sources from the Foreign Ministry to EFE, took place in the Spanish capital during Rodríguez's stopover after an official visit to China on the way back to Havana.
The protesters present expressed their rejection of the Castro official with shouts like "Scoundrel!", "Murderer!", "Shameless!", and "We want a free Cuba!", denouncing that while the Cuban people live in extreme misery, the minister continues to make trips that do not address the serious problems of the island.
These protests are taking place in the context of increasing activism among Cubans in Spain against repression and the humanitarian crisis in Cuba.
The dialogue between Albares and Rodríguez addressed the situation in Cuba and topics related to the upcoming Ibero-American Summit scheduled for November in Madrid.
Rodríguez arrived in Spain as part of a tour to gather support against what the Cuban government describes as an "energy blockade" imposed by the United States, amid intense international pressure following the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.
The presence of activists critical of the Cuban regime in Madrid reflects the discontent of the diaspora regarding the management of their leaders and the difficult reality faced by the population on the island.
