The Cuban regime assured on Tuesday that the donations sent in recent days by the Mexican government will mainly benefit children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups in various provinces of the country.
The information published by the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN) comes amid repeated criticisms and citizen complaints, due to past instances where the regime has not transparently distributed the donations received, especially following disaster situations.
The MINCIN reported that the aid, consisting of food and hygiene products, was recently received in Havana and will begin to be distributed gradually in the prioritized areas.
According to the official statement, the products will be allocated to individuals in the provinces of Artemisa, Havana, and Mayabeque, as well as to the special municipality of Isle of Youth, although it did not explain the reason for the decision to distribute solely in these areas.
Priority will be given to children aged 0 to 13 years, seniors over 65 years, pregnant women, and minors with low weight and height, as well as families in vulnerable situations.
The authorities indicated that the operation is being conducted swiftly in the reception and distribution of supplies, which will progressively arrive in each territory.
The announcement comes amid the ongoing shortage of food and basic goods affecting the Cuban population, with particular impact on the most vulnerable groups.
In this regard, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated this Tuesday that her government will not send oil to Cuba "for now," although it will maintain humanitarian aid directed to the island.
During her morning press conference, the president answered questions from journalists and specified that, while Mexico will continue to send food and other support requested by the Cuban government, the supply of fuels is not being considered at this time.
