The press chief for Miguel Díaz-Canel and the host of the pro-government program "Con Filo" shared a meme on social media that trivializes the armed confrontation that took place on February 25, 2026, in Cuban territorial waters, an incident that left a preliminary toll of four dead.

The meme that circulated displayed the phrase: “When the border guards order you to stop and you decide to respond with gunfire,” accompanied by a skull.

Below, the conclusion: "I shouldn't have done that haha," an insensitive remark for making light of an incident in which civilian casualties were reported.

The meme, originally shared on the account "La Ciberclaria," was also reposted by Michel Torres Corona.

Torres, defender and spokesperson for the government's official discourse, is the main face and scriptwriter of the program Con Filo, broadcast on Cuban national television.

According to an informational note attributed to the MININT and disseminated by the official profile "Minint Hoy," the confrontation occurred on the morning of this Wednesday when authorities detected a speedboat registered in the state of Florida, identified with the number FL7726SH, sailing within Cuban waters.

According to that account, the vessel was located approximately one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, municipality of Corralillo, Villa Clara province.

The MININT stated that a surface unit of the Border Guard Troops, composed of five members, approached the boat to proceed with its identification, and at that moment, shots were fired from the "violating" vessel at the Cuban border guards.

A U.S. official stated to The New York Times that the vessel was civilian and was part of a group of boats attempting to pick up relatives in Cuba, and that it did not belong to the Navy or the Coast Guard of the United States.

The content shared by figures associated with the Cuban regime's communication apparatus sparked backlash due to the mocking tone used in reference to an incident with fatalities, presenting a humorous conclusion with the image of a skull and the phrase "I shouldn't have done that haha," despite the preliminary report released by MININT.
