The mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, called for a complete clarification and total transparency following the fatal incident that occurred off the coast of Cuba this Wednesday.
In a statement published on her official account on the social media platform X, the mayor stated that her administration is closely monitoring the events occurring in waters near the island.
The statement comes after the armed confrontation that left four people dead and several injured aboard a vessel registered in Florida.
Levine Cava referenced the recent anniversary of the downing of the Brothers to the Rescue planes, a tragedy that deeply affected the Cuban-American community, and noted that many residents are visibly concerned about the reported events.
The mayor requested a complete and immediate assessment of the incident and demanded that the facts be clarified with total transparency, as well as that those responsible be held accountable.
In Congress, Representative María Elvira Salazar demanded that U.S. authorities clarify what happened and ascertain whether there are any American citizens or legal residents among the victims, emphasizing the seriousness of the use of lethal force against a vessel with Florida registration.
For his part, Congressman Carlos A. Giménez demanded an immediate investigation and described the incident as a massacre, while requesting detailed information from the State Department and U.S. military authorities to establish accountability.
The incident remains under evaluation as more official details are awaited regarding the identities of the deceased and the exact circumstances of the confrontation.
