The authorities of Camagüey announced the beginning of the distribution of rice from the basic basket for the months of January and February, with a quota of 4 kilograms per person, prioritized for vulnerable individuals and pregnant women, according to a post by Cadena Agramonte on Facebook.

The delivery will take place in 14 designated units across the four districts of the provincial capital, where beneficiaries will be able to collect food at the warehouses assigned to each area.

Units enabled by district:

Julio Antonio Mella: Freedom, Brotherhood, and The Supermarket.

Cándido González: Venezuela and La Central.

Ignacio Agramonte: La Mixta, San Blas, and Nuevo Modelo.

Joaquín de Agüero: Bodegas 12 Hours, Altagracia, Juruquey, La Espinita, La Paz, and El Recuerdo.

The standardized basic basket in Cuba is distributed through a rationing system, in place for decades to ensure minimum amounts of basic food items for the population in light of ongoing delays and difficulties in the availability of products such as rice, sugar, and other essential supplies.

In Camagüey, the distribution of rice and other products has been marked by delays in several previous months, due to logistical and production issues affecting the arrival of supplies to the provincial warehouses.

The announced rice delivery is part of the measures aimed at improving the coverage of the family basket in a context of shortages and delays that continue to raise concerns among consumers.
